The Trees Are My Temple

The Trees Are My Temple

“I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order.”  ~John Burroughs

Today, even with an unrelenting migraine, I got my snowboard gear together and went out to my local ski hill, Whitewater, here in Nelson BC. My greatest medicine has always been nature. Nature is powerful. It just is. When I feel awful, I go outside and something shifts. If I let myself really take in the surroundings, the smells, the sounds, the colours, the textures, I start to breath deeper and my whole body calms. I suddenly have a sense of the vastness around me and therefore the space around my pain.

Today the trees were my temple. I took a moment and just sat there amongst them, taking in their magnificence. I left feeling calm, elevated, inspired, and re-engaged with my world. Wherever you are, whatever environment you find yourself in, it is important to get out and connect with something that is bigger than yourself. When in doubt, there is always the sky above you. Go outside! See what happens!

Going out in nature is one of the top 5 things I do to Live a Joyful Life Even With Pain. You can read the full post here.
